Honor Christ - Save Lives

It’s Easter season and the sorrowful crucifixion emails are filling up my email boxes once again. While the irony of such useless emails has not escaped my attention in past years, I am finally able to verbalize it, I hope.

Honor Christ - Save Lives
You see, I don’t really believe that Jesus wants all of this attention on his crucifixion and resurrection. Don’t hang up the phone yet, give me a minute to explain.

Yes, Jesus suffered and died a horrible death, and we can do nothing about that.

BUT, we can honor it.

Many people are dying a horrible death right now and we could do something about it, but we don’t. Okay, some of us do, but for most of us, it is very little and not very often.

Yet, according to the teachings of Jesus, these suffering people are our brothers and sisters. Would you sit back and watch such things happen to your biological brothers and sisters? If so, you can stop reading now because this will not touch your heart.

Why is it that we don’t seem to truly believe that ALL people are our brothers and sisters?

  • One meal a day could save many lives around the world,
  • clean drinking water could save lives,
  • medicine and vaccines could save lives.
  • A roof over a head could save lives.
  • Admission into a rehabilitation center could save lives.

All of these people are dying, one day at a time, as we all are, but they are suffering every step of the way.

Why are we immune to that sorrow?

Those of us walking the earth today could not prevent the death of Jesus, the death of the Native Americans, the torture, torment and eventual death of slaves, the death of the Jews, nor the deaths of many who suffered and died before us.

Many of them suffered greatly for no other reason than someone wanted them dead or wanted their land.

We can, however, do something about the atrocities being committed today.

My challenge to myself and to each of you who claims to honor the sacrifice of Jesus and claims to follow his teachings, is this… stop wearing the dead tree that is symbolic of the crucifixion of Jesus if all it reminds you of is Jesus.

Instead, wear it and let it remind you of the needless suffering and your duty to all of our brothers and sisters. Let us do something that cultivates life and puts an end to needless suffering.

In my opinion, this is the best way to honor the Christ, not just on Easter, but every single day.

Honor Christ - Save lives.

'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.'  (NASB Matthew 25.40)
